2019, in my opinion was overall a down year for music but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some great projects that were released. As the last year of the 2010s decade comes to a close, it is fit that I take a look back at the top 10 albums that were released during the year.
10. Port of Miami 2 – Rick Ross
Release Date: August 9, 2019
Top Tracks: Rich N***a Lifestyle, Nobody’s Favorite, BIG TYME, Fascinated, Gold Roses, Vegas Residency, White Lines
Features: Wale, Gunplay, Summer Walker, DeJ Loaf, Swizz Beatz, Meek Mill, Nipsey Hussle, Teyana Taylor, Jeezy, YFN Lucci, Ball Greezy, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Denzel Curry, John Legend, Lil Wayne, Drake
esLists.com’s Analysis: Port of Miami 2 is the sequel to Rick Ross’ first studio album, Port of Miami, which was released in 2006. POM2 doesn’t quite live up to the success of the first album but it is a very strong effort. Ross’ ear for top notch beats continues on this project. “Rich N***a Lifestyle” featuring Teyana Taylor and the late great Nipsey Hussle truly is a standout on the project. Port Of Miami 2 is Rick Ross’ tenth studio album and it has everything that longtime fans of the rapper have come to expect.

This soulful project has multiple songs which are named after streets and areas in Solange’s hometown of Houston, Texas. As she did on her previous album, When I Get Home continues on the themes of black excellence and black empowerment. All in all, When I Get Home is a project that takes a few listens to get adjusted to but is still very enjoyable nonetheless.

IGOR features Tyler in his most vulnerable state in which he professes his love for someone who still has feelings for their ex. Sonically, IGOR is very complex and unique. In my opinion, IGOR doesn’t quite match the greatness of Flower Boy (2017), but it is a very solid project nonetheless.
